At Russell Estate Vineyard, the story of our wines is inseparable from the rhythm of the seasons.
Each year begins in late winter when the vineyard rests and reserves its energy. As temperatures rise in spring, buds break open and promise begins to take shape. These early months are a delicate balance of growth and vigilance. Frost, rain, or sudden warmth can all influence how the season unfolds.
By summer, the vineyard buzzes with life. Canopy management ensures sunlight and airflow reach every cluster, while our team tastes regularly to chart flavor development. It is here that grapes destined for wines like m2 2022, a blend of Millot and Merlot, find their identity on the vine.
Harvest is a culmination of that stewardship. The decision to pick is both scientific and intuitive. No single metric dictates timing. Instead, we aim for harmony, fruit that has achieved a balance of sugar, acidity, and aromatics that reflect the vintage.
Even after the last cluster is picked, the seasonal story continues in the cellar. Fermentation and aging unfold in their own time, influenced by the character of the year and the hands guiding the process. When the bottle finally reaches your table, it reflects not just a place, but a full cycle of time and care.
